“Mammography is nothing more than a density graph showing different shades of gray,” says Richard L. Ellis, MD, director of breast imaging research and education at the Norma J. Vinger Center for Breast Care, part of the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. “It’s extremely important to maintain the ability to discriminate between the various shades of gray that appear in a digital mammography.”
